In Fonseca, La Guajira, peace signatories and campesinos (rural farmers) have joined in productive projects to transform their rural economy. After 5 years of permanent technical assistance and strategic support by PASO Colombia, 550 people have actively participated in the agricultural projects. A key point in their development has been the increase in trust and integration among them; now, 64% of the participants are from the community, and 36% are former combatants. This success has attracted new institutional partners, and the cooperatives have increased their productive capacity:
- Between 2018 and 2023, the poultry unit increased by 700% to reach 3,500 laying hens.
- Currently, 3,860,301 eggs have been produced and sold mainly to local consumers.
- Participating families have benefited from 96,382 kg of food production.
- 82% of surveyed find the contributions of PASO's projects to their household food security significant.
- The Dama Verde unit has produced 2,960 kg of organic fertilizer, using the farm's agricultural by-products to fabric it.
The "blessing of the peace process," as expressed by campesinos in the territory, has facilitated new social ties and renewed confidence in the countryside’s economic growth.
