October 11, Miranda, Cauca, Colombia - The National Learning Service (SENA), the public institution that has been in charge of providing technical training to workers in Colombia since 1957, has become a new partner in the Rural Alternative Schools (ERA).
As a first step in this new alliance, a group of 35 students has begun a training process in the ERA of Miranda, Cauca. The students will be certified as entrepreneurs in the production of perennial fruit trees upon the successful completion of 340 hours of practical instruction in agricultural and managerial skills. The SENA will use the facilities and productive projects developed in the ERA to provide on-the-job training and technical assistance.
This pilot project will serve as a model for other ERA around the country that can be adapted to the productive needs of each community and territory.
