In the Rural Alternative School (ERA) of Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, an association of farmers who were victims of the armed conflict (ASOPROVENUS) and a cooperative of ex-combatants (COOLMUNES) have been collaborating on agricultural projects since July 2018.

This is a key region for peacebuilding efforts, strongly affected by the armed conflict before and after the 2016 Peace Agreement, with a long presence of crops for illicit use, a strategic location on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, and very rich in natural resources.

ERAs Test New Construction Technologies

A new Alternative Rural School (ERA) begins activities in the Mayorquín River basin, El Cacao village, in the municipality of Buenaventura. This region of the Colombian Pacific Coast, strongly affected by the armed conflict, provides most of the fish consumed in the country.

The new Alternative Rural School in Anorí, Antioquia, will support the productive beekeeping project developed by 28 members of the cooperative of ex-combatants COOMULDESNA and 2 farmers from the nearby community.

ERAs Produce Their Own Fish Feed

The ERA will offer training and tools for the preparation of fish feed with local raw materials, will support the construction of a biofactory and will provide training to produce organic fertilizers, and will accompany the recovery of cocoa and citrus crops that are already in the zone.
