March 9, 2018 – Miranda, Cauca, Colombia – By invitation of PASO Colombia and Shared Resources the authorities of the Canoas Indigenous Reservation visited the Rural Alternative School (ERA) in Miranda, Cauca. The purpose of the visit was to share with them the peace building experience being developed in the ERA around the teaching and practice of organic agriculture.
The indigenous authorities met there with the local community, ex-combatants studying in the ERA, agricultural technicians, and staff from PASO Colombia and Shared Resources, One Earth Future programs in Colombia. They shared knowledge about organic agriculture practices and about their own collective organization processes and peace building initiatives.
This indigenous community from Canoas, which has been working with Shared Resources for more than 6 months in the recognition and mapping of their territory, is now evaluating the possibility to adapt the ERA model for the reincorporation of indigenous ex-combatants and the strengthening of their own agricultural production with a collective and ecological approach.
